Sarah Childs- South Carolina Clowns

Summary: Something very strange is happening in Greenville, South Carolina. Strange clowns have been spotted attempting to lure children into the woods. Sounds like something out of a horror movie right? Well a little over a week ago kids at the Fleetwood Manor Apartment complex started saying they saw a terrifying clown with a white painted face hanging out behind the basketball courts and trying to take them into the woods. Several more children and parents have reported sightings of these strange characters, and a small house was even found in the woods. What is even stranger is that people at the have reported hearing the sounds of chains and banging noises coming from the woods. The police have not yet determined whether this was a weird hoax or some extreme psychopathic people out to capture innocent children.

Analysis: This article was written by Doug Criss from CNN. He uses the third person point of view throughout this passage and it was produced two days ago which means that the creeps are still out on the loose. They could cause some serious damage to this community if they are not stopped soon. Additionally, I did not know anything about this subject prior to this article. This affects my understanding of the article because I had a complete outsider's opinion on the situation. It proves to me just how insane people are in this world. This passage was written for outsiders like me or anyone else that wants to know about our world. It provides the audience with a negative outlook on our world's people and was written for the purpose of informing the world about a group of tormented people that could potentially harm us. Also, this story is trying to convey how we live in a twisted society with people who can cause extreme destruction. This is especially significant because we have not figured out who is creating such a travesty in Greenville. Finally, the clowns in this passage synthesize directly to the Ku Klux Klan. Both of these groups targeted a specific type of people and tormented them. They also hid their identities with white faces from the public eye. Overall, both the KKK and these clowns are mysterious groups of people that have caused much harm to our conciseness.

  1. This is hilarious. Everyone is freaking out about this, but I don't think the clowns are going to commit any actual crimes because they're letting everyone see them, and if they were going to do anything they would have done it by now. This is just a large scale practical joke being played on an entire town, possibly an entire nation, and its working exactly the way that those orchestrating it wanted to, by scaring everyone witless.

  3. I agree with Kate, this is hilarious! Wether it is a hoax or not, it still is very creepy. Imagine a clown coming up to you randomly and it trying to force you to go somewhere. I do not care if you are a clown or not, I would never go into the woods with you if you are a stranger. What if it is a hoax and all of the kids from the town are all apart of it...

  4. I agree with both of them! It's scary to think about people's intentions and why they would try to get you to go somewhere, especially in a clown costume! I wonder why they are hiding their face, and I if it actually is related or similar to the Ku Klux Klan! I hope everyone in South Carolina is safe, and I'm hoping that they don't go into the woods!

    1. I think if it was the KKK there would be more of an apparent agenda to their activities than just trying to creep people out. What they're doing doesnt seem to have that much goal to it other than to scare people, but not violently like terrorism, just to creep them out.

  5. To be honest, I don't think this is hilarious at all. It's not a joke when children are missing from their families. If it just a joke, I don't think they should continue on with this because it might become something very serious.

  6. This is so scary!! To be seeing reports of creepy clowns in the woods is a serious concern. I hope everyone in South Carolina is safe, and that the clowns are found and dealt with. Although there is a good point drawn when the story claims this may just be a hoax or practical joke being played by some kids...

  7. I can see this as being very funny, but I can also see this not being taken serious enough. I have heard stories similar to this in which children were raped near the woods. Clowns appeal to children, which makes me even more worried if these people are trying to take advantage of kids. I hope all parents and children are educating each other on how to be safe during this time.

  8. This is so scary to think about and i bet parents are worried for their kids! I can't believe somebody would want to scare kids in their free time, but i totally agree with Emma, just don't ever go with a stranger anywhere, especially the woods!

  9. This is so odd and so captivating. I would love to know more information as the story develops. I do really hope this is a hoax and not actually happening, as it seems straight out of a fictional horror movie. Sad that we live in a world where this happens in real life too.

  10. I can see how there can be humor found in this as a prank, but I think the extent of luring children into the woods is too far. Children are very vulnerable and, like Ava said, clowns are appealing to them. Personally, I would be very concerned for my safety and other children's if someone was using disguises to take naive kids into the woods in my neighborhood, even if it was intentionally a "joke". I can imagine that parents are very worried about their children's safety at this time. - Alix Burns
