Mollie Hamman 1st Period- Syria Bombings

Recently there have been bombings in Syria killing 47 people. The Islamic State (IS) claimed to be behind these attacks. There have been car bombs and suicide bombs killing 30 in the Tartouse countryside, 4 in Homs, and 47 deaths in total. This is an example of terrible, violent religious extremism.

In U.S. history the Puritans showed religious extremism when then burned multiple people at the stake because of their beliefs.

This shows that there are extremes to every religion/belief, and when you go so far as to hurt another person because of your beliefs, the act comes from violence and not peace.

  1. I like how you related what is going on today in religious acts of violence back to the Puritans time. Those two things are really a lot alike. I agree that these people should be accepting or at least tolerant of other religions though.

  2. ISIS is certainly growing out of control. I think we need to stabilize the Middle East as well as check terrorist groups' growth. It would be hard to eradicate terrorism if we just went after an individual group because other groups would come to replace it. We need to find the root of the issue before we can start destroying the specific manifestations of the problem.

  3. I love the connection to what we're learning about in class now. It's interesting to think how events similar to what occurred hundreds of years ago still happen today.
