Linnea Soderlund: Pro-LGBTQ+ Steps by the NCAA

Summary: In this article from the New York Times, author Liam Stack explains how the National Collegiate Athletic Association has decided to relocate several championship events from North Carolina due to anti-LGBT laws passed in the state. The NCAA wants to protect the rights of all people involved in their events and determined that North Carolina was not fit to aid them in that mission.

Analysis: I completely stand by the NCAA in their decision. I think we need to take all the steps we can to fight for equal rights for everyone. The LGBT community has an especially rough time getting along in the athletic world and I think that this really exhibits an openminded and pro-active attitude that I really appreciate. I hope this sends a message to North Carolina and leads to some real change.

Synthesis: The fight for LGBT rights can be tied back to all other fights for social and political equality in American history such as the civil rights movement in the 60's and even the women's rights movement that are both still in progress today.
