Texas has recently implemented a new law that allows students over 21 years old (with concealed handgun licenses) carry handguns onto public university campuses. It is known as the "campus carry law". It lets students of certain universities carry a concealed weapon into classrooms, dorms, and other campus buildings. Texas is the 8th state to permit guns on campus. Some say that this law shouldn't have been passed, others say that it's great that college students that have to "learn to live on their own" get to exercise their 2nd amendment.
In my opinion, I don't see that much wrong with this law. I understand that it's potentially dangerous to allow guns on onto college campuses, but someone with ill-intent could easily sneak a firearm on the campus. So overall it would be better to take the risk (pass the law) and have a better chance of being protected than to not take the risk (not pass the law) and be more vulnerable for a tragic event to happen.

I don't think that protecting from guns with guns is necessarily a great choice, but I do agree that this law can't be all bad
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with you Kobe, It's school, there shouldn't be any reason you should have a gun at school. There is a higher risk of something happening if the weapon is easily attainable rather it not being there at all.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both point of view, on one hand the gun could be dangerous to have easily accessible to someone with bad intentions, on the other someone who is genuinely interested in carrying a fire arm doesn't mean they have dangerous thoughts.
