Isabella Bruner- A Chicago Violence an Extracurricular Back to School Burden

Summary: This article talks about the shooting of kids going to schools. The issue was brought up by the congregation mourning the death of Tyshawn Lee, a 9 year-old, who was seduced into an alley, after playing in a park, was killed by gang members. But, this isn't the only occurrence as Chicago is one of the most popular place for violence."In hindsight- and this was unbelievably naive on my part-I honestly thought it couldn't get any worse," says Arne Duncan. He runs the Chicago public school system. As the beginning of school stars everyone was set for happy expectations but, some people are getting over the edge of their seats for their kid's safety. And these events have left  traumatizing effects on the kids. "Research has shown that community violence has large, short-term impacts on children's attention and impulse control, both of which are central to student's ability to learn in school." says Dana Charles, assistant principle of education at Harvard University's Graduate School.

As it shows kids are failing to learn with a place of crime in their neighborhood. Why is this happening? What is stopping us to help?
