Soon, the country's fourth most popular national park will undergo the largest planned expansion since 70 years. Yosemite National Park will be adding wetlands and meadow habitat of 400 acres on its western boundary, due to a kind donation. The extra land was purchased from a conservation group, called "Ackerson Meadow", and was later donated to the park on the centennial of the National Park Service. The donation was made possible through a partnership with the National Park Service, the Trust for Public Land and the Yosemite Conservancy, which provides grants to the park in order to preserve it. Apparently, some of the locals disagreed with the expansion due to them wanting to keep the land private so their cattle would have a place to graze.
Before reading this article, I knew little about the expansion of Yosemite National Park. This article could have a negative or positive influence on its audience, depending on the opinion of the reader. It was written to inform the reader about a huge change to the country's fourth most popular national park. This article is important because it affects all the future tourists of the area and potentially have a big impact on our country's economy. This relates to when the American colonies decided to expand westward and achieve manifest destiny.
To me, this is a positive change especially in our current era. People are cutting down trees with out replanting them, forests are dying, habitats are being destroyed by the increase need for paper. This national park can give animals a home now, it might not save every last one of them but, its good start.
