Brittney Delpey: The Young Generation Files a Lawsuit Against Obama Regarding Climate Control

This article was written by Tony Dokoupil who works for MSNBC news. While Dokoupil tries to maintain an unbiased opinion he does mention that some of the kids make intellectual statements while others complaints reflect child like interests. This is an ongoing law suit but the article was written on August 13th. The courthouse they filed at was located in Eugene Oregon.

This article was written to make people aware of an ongoing lawsuit started by children against the governments support of burning fossil fuels and the man made effects it has on the environment. These kids are taking a big stance to start raising awareness to pollution and global warming. They believe they will win the lawsuit because it acts against their unalienable rights of liberty and property. They say that past generations pollution will leave negative impacts on their lives. One kid even talks about how his farm is being damaged by drought and wildfire. All of these kids are different ages ranging from 8-20 years old. Their demands ask Obama, seven federal departments, and the Environmental Protection Agency to stop the use of fossil fuels to end climate pollution  for future generations. This is the first law suit of its kind and could spark a change in how mankind treats the earth.

Prior Knowledge: I had no prior knowledge about this lawsuit. I find it interesting that young kids as young as 8 have banded together to fight for a cause that has not been brought up to this extent before.

  1. Seeing how the younger generation is always sparking more change, from the American Revolution to the civil rights movement, demonstrates humankind's instinct to improve.

  4. I think it's very interesting and exciting that kids of our generation are making a tangible impact in the world today. Our voices can be just as powerful as our seniors if we use them correctly and for the right cause. This is definitely a worthy cause, seeing as it will greatly effect the future of our generation and generations to come.
