WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12TH BLOG: Ava Noble
Summary:
On Saturday, September 10, in California, a college football player punched a referee during a game. Offensive lineman, Bernard Schirmer, is a freshman at Mount San Antonio, reported Ventura County Star. He was ejected from the game immedietly, and he was arrested later because they were suspicious of battery; he was taken to Ventura County jail. When the referee was walking Schirmer back to his huddle, he punched him because he was breaking up an argument between the players. The referee received help from trainers to treat his injury, and he was replaced from that game. This could lead to a punishment of a five-year-ban for Schirmer.
Analysis/Synthesis:
This article was published by THE ACCOCIATED PRESS on September 11, 2016, by ABC News. Prior to reading this article, I had not heard about the event. Although this might seem like a small event that not many know about, it is an embarrassment to the team in which Bernard Schirmer played on. I hear occasionally about stories like these when players get ejected fro games because of poor behavior. I think that this does not have a big effect on the audience, but it has a negative effect on the player, his family, his team, and his college. This ruined his reputation for a while. This article conveyed and taught the audience that players cannot get by with any type of bad behavior when on any team. This is relevant to our lives today because it shows how easily a reputation can get ruined. With one bad decision, it can end your career. Although I cannot recall a time in history in which someone punched another person, many times in war people would get violent with people over a small situation. I hope that this article taught everyone, but especially football players, to contain themselves and act responsibly.

I agree that this event has impacted his reputation. His bad decision has had a negative effect on his team.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of this situation either! But like you and Abbe, i also think that this could really hurt the reputation of the team. And yes, this happens more than you think, but for some reason the occurrences are not brought to everyones attention for some reason.
ReplyDeleteCrazy how one person's mistake can affect more than just himself! Completely agree that his reputation will hurt the team and like Emma said most people are unaware of these occurrences that happen all the time.
ReplyDeleteWow. Crazy what one action can do. Also the length of the consequence seems a little extreme in my opinion, but i guess it just depends at the referees injuries.
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy how when one person does something wrong, it not only ruins their reputation, but that of the whole team. This is something that needs to be taken into consideration so that people will think before they act
