Trump says he'd build a wall along the Mexican border. We tried to figure out how. By Jason Carroll, Bryce Urbany, Julian Cummings, Michael Pisano, Eli Watkins and Jonathan Reyes (Zoe Roberts, 3rd)

Summary-- Donald Trump has been shouting about building a wall across the U.S. border with Mexico for a long, long time. However, there are serious economic and logistic hurdles to building a 1,954 mile long wall. Experts say that the strongest and sturdiest type of wall would be made out of pure cinderblock. A cinderblock wall would have to be made by stacking two large pieces of cinderblock against each other all along the border, but this process would be too costly and laborious. Another way would be to poor liquid cement along the easter frontier, but cement solidifies at high temperatures, so the project has a huge possibility of just crumbling.  Most experts say the best way to build this wall would be with pre-casted concrete. It would basically look like a massive version of the concrete walls on parts of highways. It is estimated it will cost about $10 billion.

Analysis: I think this is a very unpractical response to a problem that doesn't drastically effect a large portion of Americans. It seems a lot like something that would be done under a Roosevelt Corollary of Monroe doctrine type of legislature. Except in this case it is something to physically limit our contact with another nation. However, this is not the case since Trump and other republicans talk constantly of the need to be involved in Syria. It's a dumb idea to build a wall, it's a corrupt thing to attempt to do.

  1. I think that it is very clever to find the actual practical value (or lack thereof) of something a presidential candidate has been promising to do for a long time. Trump supporters were being interviewed, and when asked why they supported him, one said he liked that he would build a wall and make China pay for it. First of all, that statement shows the ignorance of the supporter, because Trump never said that, he said that he would make Mexico pay for it, and he said if China could go it they could do it too. Secondly, it is impractical to try and copy the making of the Great Wall of China. It was made using very many slaves, the process killed many people, it costed a lot, and people were literally buried in the wall.

  2. Matthew Homsher 9th- I don't think Donald Trump ever considered the practicality of a nearly 2000 mile wall.
