In Iowa while Sanders and Clinton were patiently waiting to see who'd come out victories, it seemed like there would be no contest. Once the polling was finished it showed that the two candidates were neck and neck with the votes showing that Bernie Sanders might still have a chance to with the race.
This event could be related back to James Polk as he was the first dark horse candidate.
This can also be related to the multiple 3rd parties that showed up during elections in history that seemed to have a pretty influential pull of the votes. These parties could include the Populists, the Bull-Moose party, and the Progressivist Party.
