Five-Year Old Shot in the Head

http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/5-year-old-shot-in-head-with-gun-he-found/34346584

Saturday evening a gun was found in a Kaufman County trailer.  The county sheriff told WFAA that the five-year old boy and his brother, age six, were watching tv in a trailer that night.  The boys found a 9mm Glock pistol, the six-year old boy told his brother to put the gun down and to continue watching tv.  Then the older brother turned around to see his five-year old brother shot in the head.  He was then taken to the Children's Medical Center in Dallas for treatment.  The hospital says that the boy is expected to survive the injury.  The police have no other information about how the boys received the gun or where the gun was in the trailer.
This incident was very sad to hear about.  This reminds me of the new law that just got passed in Texas beginning January 1, 2016.  Texas passed the open carry law which allows anyone who has a Texas license to carry a handgun.  I can see both sides of agreeing or disagreeing with this new law.  But this incident goes to show that if a gun gets in the wrong hands, that something serious could happen.  I am glad that this accident turned out positive and that the boy is expected to survive the injury.

  1. I wasn't aware of the new law in Texas, however that is quite interesting. Obviously, guns are hazardous to children and shouldn't be placed or even hidden near them. My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to the young boys and their families.
