Keurig coffee brewers were a hit, they are a single-serve coffee maker with the benefit of a fast and easy click of a button, when Keurig began they owned a patent on the k-cup coffee pods, but last year that patent expired. With the expiration came a wider variety of production. In the last year Keurig's sales have decreased more than $60 million with many questionable reasons. Keurig claims to be eco-friendly, but it has been discovered that it requires more energy to recycle the coffee cups. The decline in sales represent the loss of monopoly on the coffee cups.
This is relevant to the progressive era, as Vanderbuilt, Rockafeller, and Morgan had established a monopoly over steel, standard oil, and banks. Keurig had established a monopoly on k-cups for single-serve brewers, this soon backlashed, as Americans became more aware of the lack of efficience and harm to environment.
