Summary- The album "To Pimp a Butterfly" by Kendrick Lamar was inspired by his trip to South Africa. He says that he felt like he belonged in Africa, and that he saw all the things he wasn't taught in America. He felt connected like he was in his element in Africa. He says "Probably one of the hardest things to do is to tell someone how beautiful a place is while they are still in the ghettos of Compton. His engineer says that Kendrick was like a sponge when he used all the knowledge he learned in Africa to help make the album.
Analysis- This reminds me of the Harlem Renaissance. Blacks really focused on their origin to create their art.
