summary:
Casey Mincey recently came forward to help in the arrest of Capt. Edgar Daniel Johnson, convicted of 11 counts of sexual assault. Johnson was a correctional supervisor at Emanuel Women's Facility, where Mincey served 3 years for identity fraud. Although Johnson seemed friendly and harmless at first, his compliments became something much scarier within no time. Mincey recalled 6 different occasions in which Johnson raped and threatened her. After Mincey came forward with this information, several other women spoke up about their assaults. They now pursue a lawsuit against Johnson.
analysis:
Women should never suffer mistreatment and assault no matter their status or state. This reminds me of the prison reforms in the 1820's in which reformers called for better conditions for the mentally ill, less punishment for crimes and created better institutions. Prisons today should resolve to improve screenings and background checks for officers.
