John Conneely and Mike Modzelewski have been police partners for about a year, they had heard the call of shots fired go out over the radio and immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arriving both said that there was mass chaos. They found 5 people in total shot by a drive by shooting. On of these people was an 11-month-old baby named Princeton Chew. Princeton's pregnant mother and his grandmother had also been shot. "It's and unreal situation. Borderline helpless," the 11-year Chicago police veteran said, "You're not quite sure what to do. You want to take action, some kind of action simply because it is a child, and that's pretty much what we did." The two policemen broke a department policy and rushed the baby to the hospital themselves in their squad car- instead of waiting for an ambulance. The baby survived but his mother and grandmother did not. However, the officer's supervisors agreed not to punish the two officers for violating a department policy.
Events like this occur all the time in our country, but I don't think I've ever heard of a baby getting shot. I can't imaging being in the situation those officers were in, but I applaud them for their good decision to rush the baby to the hospital. That child would have died if they hadn't.

I applaud the officers for putting their jobs at risk to save this infant.
ReplyDeleteThis story makes me proud to be the daughter of a veteran cop. This shows that even with al the police brutality in the world today, there are still genuine policemen out there will good intentions.

ReplyDeleteI am appalled by the person who shot all of these people, and the baby. What could that baby have done to anyone? I also agree that it was a good call on the officers part to get the baby to hospital.
This is very sad! But at least a happy police story! Kenley Turner 3rd
