American Muslims on Faith & Fear -Carli Copell, Ped.6

American Muslims on Faith & Fear

This article is about an interview of a few American Muslims who talk about how threatened they feel, all the time. They feel as if everyone who looks at them sees them as a terrorist. One woman, Alia Sharrief, says she deals with these kinds of encounters everyday. Not only is she Muslim but she is also African American. Making her life in society today even worse. She says that not only does she deal with the struggles of Islamophobia but also the prejudice against black people.

Analysis: This was an interesting read. It was nice to see that a woman of her ethnicity is able to overcome whatever obstacles life throws at her in this society. It was also kind of sad to read about because we talk about being a United Nation and sticking together with one another but we constantly hate everyone around us. This can synthesize back to the 1800s when many immigrants were coming to America to escape the hardships they were dealing with in their country. They were  denied things because they looked different than everyone else. Sad to see this is still happening today.

  1. I agree, this reminds me of the nativist views some Americans had when immigration was at an all time high in America. It is sad how some people are still judged based off of their ethnicity or beliefs.

  2. Honestly the US is full of bs when it talks about justice, equality, and freedom because lots of people get discriminated against here.
