Anoosheh Oskouian was born and raised in Iran. She went to school in the US at 14, and while gone, the Iranian Revolution broke out, making it nearly impossible for her to get home, so, as a senior in high school, she moved into her own apartment, studied diligently, and began building her life. In 2000 she founded Ship and Shore Environmental, aimed to help other businesses curb air pollution. Her field is very male-dominated, but she has said that she has never let gender get in her way. Just last year, she was named a Stevie Awards finalist for women in business for revolutionizing the pollution control industry.
I think it's amazing to hear stories like this, and it demonstrates how hard work and determination can pay off. And it's not that she's built just some random multi-million-dollar company; it's one designed to make a difference in our world and to help our environment. Her story reminds me of the stories of the people in the late 19th century that were entrepreneurs and were able to build massive companies through hard work.
