At 14 years, an Iranian Immigrant. At 52, an American Entrepreneur by Kera Mickus

Anoosheh Oskouian, an ex- Iranian woman, "has been a dreamer for as long as she can remember. It was a childhood trait that her parents encouraged when she was growing up in Iran. It eventually brought her to America and inspired her to be an entrepreneur." Oskouian states that as a senior, she was the only to be living in her own apartment, with self- instructed curfews and strict adherence to goals. In 2000, she goes on to start Ship &Shore Environmental out of Long Beach, California in the business to curb carbon and air pollution created by large scale corporations and industries.Though the industry she is immersed in is dominated by an overwhelming ratio of 98% male, and she has yet to meet another female CEO in the business, she has not prevented this from reaching her multi-million dollar success story. Nor has she ex-communicated her Iranian family or neglected the lives of those less fortunate than her own. "She is also a founding member of nonprofit C.H.I.L.D, which provides humanitarian aid to help children around the world stay in school."
I synthesize this to the 1800 industrialist and urbanizing population boom of Chinese, Croatian, Italian, Greek, German, and eastern European men, women and, and children to America. The idea in this Gilded Age was that those who came would find, and those who found would be overwhelmed by the abundance of opportunity. Unfortunately, unlike Anoosheh, many immigrants did not find the "individualism" aspect of rags- riches so easily obtainable, and did not have the same success. Oskouian, perhaps with a different kind of luck, age, or fortunate circumstance, or perseverance, was able to push herself to be the kind of person that revolutionizes an industry, and opens the path for others.
