Though recently, the nuclear bomb has not seen much use as of the 1949 Geneva Convention in which attacks that cause long-term and severe damage to the natural habitat were prohibited. In order to lessen the defensive nuclear arsenal of the United States, the Department of Defense has created a new model of tail piece for the B61 bomb which allows it to be maneuvered. This will lead to more accurate strikes and the possibility for a warhead that's power can be minimized to reduce fallout and other collateral damage, so as to abide by the rules set in the Geneva Convention. However, this could cause a problem as many military commanders could see this as an acceptable excuse to use the extremely deadly and harmful weapon which could still hurt or kill civilians, which is also prohibited within the same protocol as the prohibition of attacks causing damage to the environment. This advancement in nuclear weaponry could also lead to a decrease in the amount of warheads held by the United States because there would not be a need to hold an excess amount of nuclear devices because the devices already present would be far more effective. The nuclear bomb has been a hot topic ever since it was first used August 6, 1945 and August 9, 1945 on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively. Though it was not the most tactful way that the U.S. could have gone about seeking revenge upon the Japanese empire, it was effective, perhaps too effective. Not even 10 days after the first bombing the emperor announced his unconditional surrender. In his address, the emperor of Japan described the weapon as "a new and most cruel bomb." With a blast force of well over 10,000 tons of TNT, cruel is an understatement. It freaking vaporized people. You can see their shadows burned into the concrete of the ground. Though these new decreases in the power of the nuclear warhead are a step in the right direction, nothing is sacred in war, and they could very well be used for tactless and brutal methods of terror as they have in the past.
