Trump's appeal rooted in nativism and economic anxiety - Kate Fehan 8th Period

It seems like Trump has found the perfect scapegoat for whatever problem is plaguing the American people. We are already wary of people that speak another language or look different. That along with the economic recession has fired up Americans to fight against the root of all problems: immigrants. Using ignorance and nativism to manipulate the masses is nothing new in American politics. The Know-Nothing Party was a whole group of Trumps gone wild and they tried to punish immigrants and all sorts of other minorities for things they couldn't control. Again, nativism grew popular after an influx of immigrants in the Gilded Age. The only way to stop a repeat of that is education and perhaps a fact check on everything the presidential candidates are saying.
