A little girl was on Santa's lap at her local mall, but she was having trouble communicating. The mother told Santa, "She can't speak very well". Santa replied, "Can she sign at all?". Santa then began to sign to the little girl, who signed back. The girl was obviously very happy that she could talk to Santa.

I think this is very cute. I wonder if whoever hired the mall Santa knew of his signing ability, if he had put it on his Santa-resume. I think that sign language is extremely inportant to the world, because some people can't communicate any other way. Parents with deaf children wouldn't ever be able to speak to their kids, and vice versa. The American School for the Deaf was the first educational program that was able to teach to deaf students, and it was founded in 1817. The American Sign Language is believed to have been created and established from that school. American Sign Language is different from sign language in other parts of the world, which goes to show how different countries develop differently, even if some of the customs are the same.

This is such a sweet story to hear, especially with all of the negative things going on recently.

I think this is so touching. I've seen stories recently of people like starbucks baristas going out of their way to learn basic ASL when they realized one of their frequent customers was deaf, and I think that's just wonderful.
