Luz Lopez(4th period)-Why you can get the flu even if you've had the flu shot

There have been several hundred confirmed cases per December. These recent years the flu has been very horrible. Supposedly the flu is supposed to increase more during the winter. After it is learned, it is possible to get the flu even if you've got the flu shot. It turned out in 2014-2015 the flu shot only reduced the chance of not getting the flu is 20%. In other years it was 60%. The way the doctors know you have the flu because the flu has a thing called a strain. If the doctors can detect the dominant strain, they can mabey make a vaccine for that.
The flu is getting worse and worse every year. This article reminded me of small pox. At first the colonists thought it was a small disease, but it turned out to be worse than they thought.

  1. Well, diseases like the flu are difficult to combat because the diseases get stronger. (Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)

  2. Hopefully they can find a cure that will eliminate it completely but I know it'll be hard as the virus gets stronger and stronger annually. (Jillian Linnear P.8)

  3. The flu virus itself has not been proven to be getting worse. In fact according to the CDC this year only 1.8 percent of flue tests are positive nationwide, and only 1.4 percent are positive in Dallas county, compared to 25-30 percent positive tests at the same time last year.

  4. The flu virus, like any, can become immune to vaccinations. This is especially bound to increase with the increase of vaccinations the flu is exposed to each year.
