for the first time since october, the syrian city of Madaya has received foreign aid from the U.S involving shipments of food, blankets and a few mandatory necessities for first aid. the syrian government refused to admit that the people are starving and claims that if they are it's because of the terrorists stealing the humanitarian assistance from the U.N. when pictures of starvation and death were releases the syrian ambassador claimed that the the pictures were fabricated to be that dramatic. shipments arrived to Madaya with the help of The Red Cross, The U.N and a few other organizations that made this possible. enough food was shipped to feed 40,000 people for the next month. although this is wonderful, people working closely with this situation agree that what these people need is permanent access to these kind of necessities since their own government is not helping them.
seeing this kind of awful reality that is occurring in our world makes me feel guilty in someways knowing that while I'm comfortable enjoying fundamental luxuries that i need to survive, there are people struggling to even obtain half of what i have. i feel guilty that i cant immediately help these people and have to live with the fact that theses our reality. for now, theres not really much we can do which is difficult to accept. i think its great that the U.S is using our power as a nation to do good and help support people that need it. a nation coming together to help another is one of the actions that can help make the world a better place. we see a similar action when canada supported and helped syrian refugees and welcomed them into the country.
