Lost City Found in Honduras (Bella Di Fazio pd: 8)

In Honduras, archaeologists have recently discovered artifacts of what was thought to be the legend of the "White City". It was reported to have been discovered during the twelfth century by Spanish conquistadors. Since no evidence was found for many centuries, it was believed to be a myth.
The artifacts found are not related to the Olmecs, Aztecs, or Mayans and is believed to be a completely different culture. Due to the distinct white blocks used for buildings and distinctly advanced forms of artwork, this culture was especially unique.
Archeologists have unearthed many artifacts that are now being displayed in museums. However, it could take many years to figure out the culture of this culture.

This story automatically reminded me of the lost city of El Dorado, which was also reported to have been found by other conquistadors. It's most likely the Spanish completely wiped out that culture like it had done with Aztecs.

I find this really interesting! I think its really cool what modern technology is allowing us to do as I assume something tipped them off that something was under there. It really is shocking because what does this mean for future curriculum? The next generation could be learning an entirely different history than we did.

  2. I think that it is so cool that we are still making huge discoveries about our past. I am so fascinated and I want to know more! How did they make the blocks white? Where did these people go? Were there other settlements? I cannot wait to see what archeologists discover.

  3. Wow, it's cool that this culture may show up in history books in a few years. What archaeologists can deduce about a culture from just artifacts is amazing.
