Jaylon Mobley, 5th Period // "4 teens arrested in alleged gang rape of 18-year-old in Brooklyn playground", CNN

Summary: Yesterday, Sunday, January 10, 2016, 4 teens have been taken into custody for allegedly raping an 18-year old girl in a Brooklyn Park, Osborn Playground. The teens came in at 14, 15, 15, and 17. The 18-year old girl was with her father at the time at around 9 o'clock P.M. drinking beer (as sources say). The two were confronted late at night by the 4 teens and the father was forced at gunpoint to leave his daughter alone with them so that they could take turns raping her. Her father was drunk sources say, by how he ran into a nearby bodega screaming and requesting the owners to call the police, because he did not have his cell phone on him. The store owners told police that he seemed drunk or incoherent and refused to call the police. Eventually he was able to call the NYPD and returned back to his daughter, who by this time was alone as the teens had done what they wanted to do and already left. once the police arrived they tried their best to get her admitted into a hospital immediately and she initially was very belligerent in going and even bi one of the police officers in an attempt to not go. And sources say that this was due in part by her also being drunk. so she was not admitted that night, and instead was admitted the next morning. She was treated and released. Two of the teens turned themselves in later that same day, later the other two were put into custody. 4 have been arrested but cameras from a nearby corner store show the boys, with another teen who is suspected to have been a part of the crime. At least more than one of the teens say that the rape was consensual but the father and girl disagree strongly.

Analysis: First off: I'm sure these young men would not feel so great about the recent outbreak in police brutality toward African American teen boys, and the growth of racism. Now I'm not one to say that somebody should not sag in their pants, or curse up a storm, or be loud, or have a grill in their mouths, because that is genuinely who some people are. Black or White. And I would never deter someone from being themselves. And I don' understand why any American would in the first place. No morals are being broken riding around in a Crown Victoria with 22 inch Asantis and hydraulics, but many morals are being broken when you've decided to rape someone. Black or White. Connecting this all, The image that people have placed in their minds for African American boys are not all blurred. Because some are true. And they are starting off their lives ALREADY defining the stereotype instead of redefining it. And so how can WE (as Black people, if any are reading) blame anyone else for being generally scared of us, if we have caused them to do so? I mean what do you to someone for expecting that you'd be late, if you're MOSTLY late all the time? Nothing. There is nothing to do about making someone see you (as a people, or individually) as something different than you've portrayed yourself to be in the past on multiple occasions EXCEPT fixing what has been broken. And that's not what these young men have done. Moreover this is a terrible way to start off a new year. I can only pray for the families involved and send my positive spirit and condolences to the victims, including the 18-year old girl, her father, and the parents of these young men.

  2. its unbelievable that even though, theres a serious problem going on that someone who's asking for help can't get any because they where drunk. The poor girl had to go through that in that state of mind is disgusting
