"Donald Trump slams gun-free zones in Vermont speech"- Leah Messinger (period 1)

Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, expressed his controversial opinion on gun control and Obama's "gun-free zones" on Thursday, January 7th during his speech in Vermont. Trump pledged to get rid of these gun-free zones which clearly shows his support of second amendment rights.
Although I don't typically agree with Trump, he has a valid point that these zones violate our rights guaranteed by the second amendment. However, gun control is a touchy subject, and there is also a very good reason for Obama to want to protect our country from people who are careless or crazy that might be armed with a gun. The amendment was originally created under different circumstances but was ultimately designed to give people a sense of security. This topic has appeared quite often in the news lately because of its increasing relativity to our lives. Having a gun makes people feel secure in being able to protect themselves, but it also gives the people causing the problems more opportunities to get their hands on a gun. This creates a sticky situation for Americans just wanting to keep their families safe. This also shows how candidates use common issues occurring to try and promise future solutions. They can try to increase their popularity by appealing to what the public wants which in this situation is a wide variety of opinions on how to keep our country secure.

  1. I completely agree that gun control is a touchy subject. It is hard to please everyone when talking about gun control. Trump does have a valid point, though.

  2. I think it would really depend on where these gun free zones are.

  3. It may be a 2nd amendment violation, but government-funded buildings like public schools (such as our own) are "gun-free zones" already. I think it makes sense to keep some places free of weapons, most laws violate our rights in some small way or another already, this just seems to be the one receiving the most focus.
