Is Starbucks taking Christmas out of their cups? by Mattie Whisler9th period Flex

Since the beginning Starbucks has been questioned about their holiday cups for the 2015 season. Starbucks released their red cups for the season over the first weekend of November. This is a surprise considering the design on the cups in past years. Usually the cups are white and have design like snowflakes or ornaments.  Critics are accusing Starbucks of insulting Christmas and defacing Christians. Many people are expressing their opinions on social media and verbally, most are expressing negative opinions towards Starbucks.

I think that just because Starbucks didn't go all out for the holiday season doesn't mean that they are insulting Christmas or Christians. Some people may be taking this too seriously. Personally I like the cups, they are simple and traditional. When you think of Christmas the colors that come to mind might be red and green.

  1. I actually think what they are doing is better than going all out for Christmas. Some people don't celebrate Christmas and its considerate of Starbucks to keep it minimalistic and open to interpretation.(Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)

  2. I think that the cups could just be winter themed with snowflakes and such rather than Christmas themed. Winter colors are darker colors anyways, I don't think they are doing any harm with just keeping it red.

  3. Bernadette Negrete- if anything they are making the cups less festive to make everyone happy not just some people. The cups are just broad enough to make everyone happy not just one type of person. People are taking this too far.

  4. I think that these are just people over reacting. It is not like in the past they have put Jesus on their Christmas cups, If Starbucks is really concerned with how they will be perceived in the upcoming season because of this controversy, could change their advertising to say "Holiday" cups instead of "Christmas"
