Summary:
According to the mayor of Lexington, Kentucky, Jim Gray, he is not part of the KKK. Gray says that anyone saying he is, is lying and should not be trusted. Gray is saying this as he responds to a list of people that are supposedly associated with the group "KKK" and the hacktivist group known as Anonymous. According to Gray, "he has never had any association with the group and is opposed to everything its stands for." As of Monday new names began appearing on Twitter denying the fact that they were not members. The posts came from an account by the name of TheAnonMessage who supposedly represent the group Anonymous. This account also threatened to expose personal details about those who are allegedly a part of the Ku Klux Klan. According to the group this event has taken place on the first anniversary of when the jury decided not to prosecute Darren Wilson, The officer who killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
Analysis:
This event I think just provides more evidence that racism and discrimination is still very much alive in the United States, and the rest of the world for that matter. I can relate this event to the 1930's through late 60's in America, when the "KKK" was very much in power, especially in the south, and discriminated, beat and even killed African Americans and anyone who supported them at all. To me this whole situation is kind of frightening because many believe that groups like the "KKK" dies out many years ago when segregation ended. Although what many do not know and understand is that racism and discrimination, just like in the old days, is still very much alive. So for now, even though events like this may be isolated and under the surface, I think times are going toget
wrse before it gets better, and if America cant get its act together, then history may end up repeating itself.

it's dumbfounding to me that an organization like this could still be up and running. their ideals are so unjust and immoral, not to mention outdated.
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible that there's a chance the KKK has been a continuous organization for all of this time. What the people did to African Americans in that era was unacceptable then and definitely is now.
