Brittany Maynard's death with dignity Heather McKay

When Brittany Maynard was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer, she and her husband moved to Oregon, one of the few states in the US who have approved a death with dignity plan. This allows terminally ill patients to get a prescription drug to end their life when they are ready. On Saturday Brittany took her life in the face a battle she knows she would not win. There is extreme controversy over this decision with many people against it and putting it into religious context and people that are at peace with the fact that she ended her life with dignity.

I feel as though this relates to the issue on abortion, though in a different context. People will always disagree on controversial issues like this and very often religion is brought into play. There are many people who believe this is wrong because the end of your time on Earth should be decided and controlled by the father, not some pill. I agree to some extent, however I personally support that death with dignity act as i do believe it could save someone tremendous mental and physical pain.

  2. I also agree because if one wants to end their pain and suffering, I feel that it should be their choice. I understand how this tragic situation could have caused family members much grief, but at the end of the day, it was this women's life, and if she wanted to end it with dignity, then she shouldn't be stopped.

  3. Many individuals would rather end their life with a sense of dignity than watch their physical and mental state slowly deteriorate. Some people don't posses the quality of life we take for granted; having any influence on an individuals decision regarding their own body isn't ethical, regardless of religious influence.
