"Metro-North Train Sped at 82 MPH in 30 MPH Zone Before Crash" (Melissa Kurtzman, 5th period)

Summary: On Sunday morning an eight car train derailed in the Bronx, NY; four people were killed in the accident and over seventy were injured, some critically. While officials had first assumed that the crash had happened due to faulty breaks, but it is now being reported that the train was traveling almost three times over the allowed speed limit. The National Safety Transportation Board is conducting an investigation, but has yet to indict anyone on criminal charges. Faulty brakes have mostly been out ruled as the cause because reports state that the train had made nine stops before the crash.

Analysis: First of all, my prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones in this accident. This whole accident seems very suspicious and I have a few questions. 1: Why was the train going almost 3x over the speed limit? 2: Why didn't the engineer apply the breaks earlier? 3: Was there no warning that was given that could've indicated that the train was going to crash? I hope that the investigators come to a conclusion soon and make the right choices with the evidence that they find.
