Summary: Early
Saturday morning a football player from the University of Hawaii died after he
was swept up by a large wave at Oahu beach.
KGMB-TV reported that the Honolulu Fire Department
recovered Willis Wilson’s body, age 21, around 7:30; several hours after the
student went missing. He and two other friends were in knee-deep water when the
wave hit them. His two friends and others who were on the beach tried
to find Wilson’s body, but they couldn’t locate it. The police tried an air, land,
and sea search and eventually found the football player’s body three hours
later.
Wilson was a running back for Hawaii but spent his first
three seasons at the University of Washington. "We are very saddened by the news of
Willis' passing,” said Hawaii football coach Norm Chow. "He was a very fun-loving
young man who was well liked by his teammates." He had not appeared in a game yet this
season.
Analysis: It
is very sad to hear when something tragic like this happens. There isn’t much
you can do in a situation like this, because things like this are so
unpredictable. Man does not control the
weather. My prayers and concerns go out
to the family, and I hope they recover from their loss.
