Veronica Jones: Police arrest 15-year-old girl accused of cyberbullying in Florida

Have I ever mention that I think most teenage girls are psychopaths? Maybe that statement is taking things to the extreme, but things like cyber-bullying are a great example of unnecessarily violent behavior. An unnamed 15-year old girl was arrested by Florida police this past week for sending " several hundred threatening texts to three other 15-year-old girls". She has been charged with charged "three counts of aggravated stalking and one count of tampering with a witness". The tampering with the witness charge was added on after she continued sending death threats to the victims after being warned by police not to. I think one of the worst parts of this is, the only reason they are able to find for her sending hundreds of threatening texts, most of them death threats, is that her and the three other girls "had a falling out"

Despite the fact that I may sound like I'm trying to find something to blame, the fact that the bullying is through texts proves a point. People are cowards. This is why things like road-rage and cyber-bullying exist, because we don't have to say these things to other's faces, people like this teenage girl are able to do major damage to someone's emotional stability without much consequence. Sure, this girl may have been caught, but there are thousands of other bullies getting away with it and just as many suicides.

  1. I hate it when I hear things like this. The bully must have something going on in her life for her to be hurting other people like this. Why would a person want to make someone feel this way? Bullying makes no sense to me.

  2. I do not understand why people would want to hurt others by bulling them. I think it is so unnecessary and childish. If you don't like someone, or don't want to hang around with them anymore, than just ignore them and leave them alone. Ugh.. I think it's a good thing that this girl is actually being held accountable for what she did.

  3. I agree that this girl's behavior was horrific and absurd, however, I think your comparison of her behavior to humanity as a whole was a little harsh.

  4. I definitely agree that the social/moral consequences for saying something hurtful online or via mobile device are greatly reduced because one is not talking to that person face to face. They do not see the person's reaction/ facial expression and do not have to immediately deal with the person's hurt feelings. When anger/frustration occurs, the way to let that anger go is to calmly and logically reason through the purpose for your anger, instead of venting it online. Anger and acting without thinking are a bad combination.
