Summary: Google's Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt, said government spying on its data centers would be outrageous and potentially illegal. It could potentially violate people's privacy. According to an article, the NSA used Google and Yahoo data bases to take a lot of information and email addresses for their own data centers. The NSA denied that they had access to the Google and Yahoo servers. They said that the statements were misstated facts and taken the wrong way. He said the NSA collected millions of phone records to maintain safety.
I understand the need for national security and safety because of all the crazy things people do. On the other hand, I feel that if the NSA are really doing all these things, that is a big violation upon our own individual rights and privacy. I think that its scary for the US government to be in your business, know what you're doing, who you're talking to, and what you're looking up. While it may help catch potential dangers to the country, I feel like its taking steps in the wrong direction. There should be new laws put up against the violation of privacy by the government, and regulations to the type of things the government can do.
This whole scandal is just terrible. I don't find it surprising, though. Nothing is ever deleted from the internet, so everything that's posted can be dug up. Doesn't surprise me one bit that the NSA is utilizing that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Claire that this scandal is terrible and both the NSA and United States government should be shamed. We cannot recover from this poor excuse of international security.
