Summary: The mom of this young boy said that having the youngest child to have had the bariatric surgery, that its very easy to 'point a judgmental finger.' And parents might ask was there ANYTHING else the mother could do instead of giving her child this serious surgery. 18 year old Maria Capringo weighed 443 pounds when she was just 14. "I was gaining 40 pounds a year," Capringo said who is a student at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. Doctors told her unless something drastic happened that she would not reach 18. You can she that for this child's parents that it was an incredibly difficult decision and they ultimately tried to do whats best for their child. The 2 year old weighed 79 pounds at 2 and suffered from a disease that caused him to stop breathing in his sleep.
Analysis: This story is heartbreaking and amazing at the same time. You always hear of America being an obese country but in fact this family is form Saudi Arabia. This is something that is not normal, you don't usually hear of 79 pound 2 year old's. I'm sure there is some kind of disease that is making the child this way. I respect the parents so much, because as a mom or dad you want to do whats best for you child and is going to make him/her a better person. And this surgery can be really dangerous, so for them to allow this for their child took a lot of courage and strong will.

Wow, that's so crazy. I have never heard of a 79 lb. two-year old. I defeintely respect the parents as well for taking the best step to make the right decision for their kid. Hopefully everything works out!
ReplyDeleteThis was so interesting. I applaud the parents for doing what's best for their child. It's obvious that this was a disease and if they didn't do anything about it, it could've let to something dangerous.

DeleteBefore I read this article, I was definitely thinking, "Why in the world would anyone ever give a two year old weight loss surgery?!" But after reading, I can definitely see how hard it was for the parents to make this life changing decision. I'm really glad that this article shows that its easy to judge people for their decisions without knowing the details first. That surgery will help his health a great deal, and it goes to show that not all weight loss surgeries are for an aesthetic purpose. - Nana Johnson 2nd Period
ReplyDeleteThis story really shows how much a parents love is important. Even though the surgery is really dangerous the mom is doing what is best for her child and I can certainly respect that! I also hope that the 2 year old gets better and healthier . Rhyann lee 5th period
