Summary:
The app Snapchat has been getting a bad wrap lately. Many people have thought it to be just a way for teens, and adults alike, to send pornographic images and videos. The Owner and developer has been trying to improve the app's image for awhile now. He hopes to do this by expanding the user base to an older audience. Also an app has been developed for the upcoming Google Watch.
Analysis:
I found this article pretty amusing to read. Mostly everyone I know just use it to send atrocious pictures and hilarious moments. I honestly dont understand why people would use it to send nude photos when it can be so easily hacked. I also kind of disagree with trying appeal to an older audience. If he wants to stay relevant he needs to keep updating the app for the younger generations that are already using Snapchat.

Felicia Padilla 5th period: I also agree that the app shouldn't be targeted at older people. I also don't think many people over the age of maybe 25 would use this app. Even if the app started new advertisements aimed at older adults I don't think they would be successful and Snapchat would probably not be relevant anymore.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your analysis. If he wants people to keep using this app he has to appeal to the audience already given which is teens.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about trying to appeal to a younger audience. If they market it toward a youthful, young-adult audience, we may continue using it for a longer time like Facebook. Most apps and social networking sites get old quickly because other people stop using them, and I think the younger generations are essential for guiding trends.

I agree with your analysis... The app isn't gonna matter that much to old people. Maybe this will raise public awareness of how not private their "private" info sometimes is.

Appealing to older audiences is a bizarre idea; considering older adults opinions on technology. Many of them are just confused and opposed to it. I'm not trying to stereotype, but how many older people do you see taking selfies?
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, when I tried to explain the concept of Snapchat to my parents, they found it pointless. And God forbid I try to show my Grandma Snapchat, she would never find any use for it. If they try appealing more to an older audience, then they might lose their entire audience. Some other developer is bound to create an app that is basically the same thing but with some improvements and Snapchat will quickly diminish to nothing. In conclusion, I completely agree with your analysis! Haha I can't imagine my dad taking a selfie of himself and sending it to someone... o.O
ReplyDelete-jasmine Easter That's true, the younger generations will be around longer pulse we are the I ones who use technology the most so why not appeal to the masses? Maybe it's because we are also the ones using for the wrong reasons. As sad as it is many teens do miss use snap chat maybe this is why he chose to appeal to an older, more mature crowed that won't send inappropriate pictures to each other.
ReplyDeletealthough the app is trying to appeal to an older audience they have to realize that mainly everyone using it are teenagers. So why not make another version for and older audience or just drop everything and just focus on appealing to teenagers since they're the ones using it.(mostly)
ReplyDeleteI think that it's a valid step they're trying to take however I'm not sure if it'll be successful. It's teenagers that use that app, it's as simple as that, and because there is that bad reputation surronding it, they are going to have a really hard time making it seem different. I applaud their efforts though.
