Obama Supports Russian Proposal to Syria by Zien Lin (P4))

Summary: On Monday, 9-09-2013, President Obama said that he will hold off on striking Syria if President Assad agrees to put his country's chemical weapons under international control in an "enforceable and verifiable" way, a proposal first made by Secretary of State John Kerry and then backed up by Russia. Obama also said that this proposal could be a hit or miss due to past actions of Russia and that if he approves a strike, stating that he "haven't decided" to go ahead with a strike even if congress and the American public doesn't approve it, "The U.S. does not do pinpricks." He is scheduled to have a prime-time address during Tuesday, 9-10-2013.

Analysis: This article was written by Olivier Knox for yahoo news to inform the American Public about what the president wants to do concerning the situation in Syria even though it doesn't affect America much. It shows what Obama's attitude is towards representing what the citizens of the country wants and his attitude towards using his authority even if the other parts of the government don't approve of it.

  1. I'm really glad that Russia has finally come up with a somewhat reasonable solution to the chemical weapon situation. I think that if Assad agrees to Russia's proposal, then the UN and US will be able to keep watch over the civil war in a little more relaxed tone.

  2. I think that it's great that Obama is finally showing some decision towards the U.S. and Syria in this new situation. I also agree with Nana that it's a good thing that the U.N. is becoming involved to try and put a handle on things before they go out of control.
