Blind Man Buys Gun- by Umair Nasser
Michael and Kim Barber went to Bass Pro Shops in Altoona, Iowa to purchase a gun and use it as protection from someone who would be breaking and entering into their home. This topic has received world wide coverage because many people don't support the idea that someone who can't see where they are walking, can bear firearms. Even though he has passed the gun safety course that was provided by the state of Iowa, the mass population doesn't agree with the legality of him being licensed. If a blind man can pass the test, doesn't this make you wonder if the test is even truly dependable?
Analysis:
The author of this article is Jason Clayworth, and he wrote this locally through the Des Moines Register. I've never read any of his previous work, so i can't tell if he normally speaks from a bias. This article was written locally, so the opinions and views of the global community are not accounted for in this piece. Before reading this article, I had not heard about this issue. This article was written for the population of Iowa, and the rest of the United States. I personally feel like blind people should not be allowed the right to bear arms as it is dangerous for everyone including themselves. They can hurt someone just because they assume that the other person has a weapon on them, even though that may not be the case. Lately we have had so many issues with who should and who shouldn't be allowed to bear arms at all times and these issues arise because of events that have taken place in order to make the public anxious.

I'm not sure I would like to be in this situation. Clearly Mr. Barber is capable of detecting motion and other things because he passed all of the state gun safety courses needed to obtain a gun license, but I still don't know how I would feel about having a blind person carrying a gun.

ReplyDeleteI think it's really scary to know that a blind man is able to have a gun. Although he might know how to use better than some people who can see its still scary and I feel that it's unsafe
