A Ontario mother receives a very disturbing letter regarding her 13 year old autistic son Max from their neighbor. The letter was full of hateful things but the biggest shocker was when the writer asked the mother to "Euthanize her son". Max's mother is taking all the right steps and not "stooping down to the intolerable level". She has written a blog called Love thy max and calls her son "a blessing" and writes about how people need to have understanding, tolerance, and acceptance of children with special needs. Another thing she writes back is that ALL children makes noise not only special needs children just like this one she makes very valid points and I have a very high respect for this mother and her choice of replying. The writer says that she is "One pissed off mother" well how "pissed off" do you think Max's mom is when she received this. As a mother she should know about tolerance and accepting. It is okay to be upset and not accept something but things like this need to be kept to herself. I hope Max is a very successful young man and proves this intolerable monster wrong. Someone like herself should move to a trailer park where behavior like this is accepted. Max's mother is just trying to give him the best life she possibly can. With this said I hope all is successful with Maxs mother's case.
It is awful that a mother would send that to Max's mom! I agree with you and hope Max is not discouraged by people like this.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe that an adult could be so cruel speaking of a child with a mental disability. Although his sounds may be a "problem", it is not this "pissed off mother's" place to insult him and propose such mean things to get rid of him. This was a very ill-written letter suggesting that this child has no place in the world and that no one will ever love him or want to have anything to do with him. If anyone should have to move, it should be this cold hearted person who had the audacity to tear down someone, a child no less, who she believes to be lesser than her "normal" children and a nuisance to the rest of the neighborhood. According to the centers for disease controls and preventions, "about 1 in 6 children in the U.S. had a developmental disability." Is this mother suggesting that this many children should be euthanized due to a childhood disability they were born with? Sounds like genocide to me.
