Summary: The National Center for Health Statistics has released a report stating that the US teen pregnancy rate is at an all time low. Girls between the ages of 15 and 19 pregnancy rate has declined from 61.8 births per 1, 000 teenage girls in 1991 to 31. 3 per 1, 000
teenage girls in 2011 to 29.4 births per 1,000 in 2012. This is an over 50% decline in two decades. This steady decline is by many racial groups in America, including
White, Black, Hispanic and Asian or Pacific Islander teenage girls. Under the Obama administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gave $100+ million to teenage pregnancy prevention programs across the country.

Analysis:I think it's great that America is making progress with teenage pregnancies. It's obvious that more teens are practicing abstinence, safe sex and/or taking birth control. This is good news as the listed above prevents abortions, unplanned pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. The decline proves that the president's efforts towards this cause has paid off. Hopefully the teen pregnancy rate can continue to decrease.

This is really good news! It means that people are more knowledgeable about the harms of having a child at such an early age when you're not quite ready.
ReplyDeleteWow, such progress we made over the last decade, we're starting to have a bit more common sense about having a child, knowing you're not ready, and should be always cautious.

It's great to know that people are coming to their senses. Teen pregnancy is not the ideal way of life for most of us.
ReplyDeleteIm actually very excited that it's going down. I was starting to get really worried for awhile there. Phew.
