Summary

12 Los Angeles County employees stole thousands of textbooks from 4 school districts to supply them to a buyer, who bribed them. The buyer paid $200,000 for all of the books.  The school employees sold the books for their own personal profit. The two-year-long scheme was put together by Corey Frederick, a book buyer.  Frederick paid anywhere from $600 up to $47,000 to steal textbooks in literature, language arts, economics, physics, anatomy and physiology. In all, at least 7,000 textbooks were taken. The school employees were charged with embezzlement and accepting bribes. Frederick was charged with 12 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of offering bribes. Twelve of the thirteen suspects have pleaded not guilty.

Analysis

This is ridiculous. Who would steel textbooks from children? I hope that the teachers and school employees involved never teach another day in their lives. I’ve never even heard of anyone steeling school textbooks before. There are plenty of other ways to legally earn money. I also do not understand why all of the suspects but 1 have pleaded not guilty. It is very unlikely that the book buyer managed to get 7,000 books from just one teacher. Everyone involved needs to come clean and confess of their crime.
