Kolina Hocevar 5th Prank gone wrong

This tragedy happened on Friday, Premila Lal and her 12-year-old cousin decided to play a joke on Nerrek Galley, who was a close family friend. Lal and her cousin snuck into the house right before 8p.m. no one knew they were in the house. Galley, was playing video games with Premila's 15-year-old brother, Pranil.Galley and Pranil heard a noise and went to check it out. Pranil told KUSA, "We thought maybe there was an intruder in the house and maybe some people knew we moved, and they were coming to check if we got everything so we started clearing the house". The "intruder' who was Premila jumped out of a closet as a harmless joke, and the trigger was pulled. According to the neighbor the family rushed outside, screaming. Lal was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead within an hour.  Police say that, "Galley is being held on charges of reckless endangerment, child abuse and providing a gun to a juvenile because Lal's 15-year-old brother had access to the gun". The teens death was "unintended and extremely tragic," police said in a statement.

This is obviously a huge tragedy. Obviously the whole situation took a wrong twist from being a harmless funny joke to a tragedy of a killed teen. The parents and adults should have been more aware of the situation and should have not have had a gun laying around for easy access. Guns should not even be in the household with kids in them, but even so they should be locked up where no child could have access to them. Indeed this was all accidental we should all be more aware of what are children do, in order to keep them safe.

  1. Felicia Padilla 5th period: I agree that there should not have been a gun lying around the house within easy reach of a 15 year old kid. On the other hand though, it is never a good idea to hide in someone's house and scare them. This sort of reminds of Vine. People are taking this app to the extreme and doing things just for amusement, but, if you were to really think about what you were doing you would realize that it is actually very dangerous.

  3. This is so sad. I agree that guns in the house shouldn't be that easy for a kid to get a hold of. A lot of people get their houses broken into so it definitely wasn't a good idea for the children to hide in someone's house unannounced because the people had no way of knowing if it was a burglar or not. Its sad that Galley is being charged when it wasn't all his fault. -Nia Edwards

  4. Wow, how tragic. This, to me, just shows how careful we need to be. I agree with Felicia. People need to really think about what they're doing BEFORE they put things in action. This inicdent is a prime example.
