Kids Take a Plunge to the Ground- Victoria Lennox 2nd Period

When headed to the fair with family and friends, you expect a fun, yet safe, outing. However, on September 8, 2013 one fair outing was anything less than safe. A festival attraction that swings riders up and down and around lost power in Connecticut and sent children falling to the ground, injuring 13 of them. Police say, “Most of the children suffered minor injuries and were treated at the Oyster Festival in Norwalk. But several others were more seriously hurt and taken to local hospitals. Their conditions weren't immediately available. It wasn't clear how far off the ground they were when they fell.”
When the company who owned the ride, “Stewart Amusement” was contacted, they were hesitant to immediately return phone calls and emails. On the companies website it says the rides are inspected by its own staff every day, by state and local inspectors weekly and by engineers and insurance inspectors each year”
An investigation is still being conducted regarding the reason for the malfunction.

  2. This is horrible. This reminds me of what happened to the lady riding the Texas Giant at Six Flags. Rides need to be more secure for children and adults.

  3. People going on roller coasters are crazy. They are not all that safe and the G force isn't all it is cracked up to be. I think instead of roller coasters the american culture should promote playing twister and eating strawberries.

  5. This frightens me mostly because I am a huge fan of roller coasters and other thrill rides. Recently, a lot of theme park related injuries have been occurring due to many equipment malfunctions. All I can say is that a ton of people are going to make money from these lawsuits!
