Summery-
The article explores the similarities and differences between Iraq 2002 and Syria 2013. It points out specific examples in what is actually happening. For example, when the United States went to Iraq we sent over troop and our goal was a regime change. With Syria, Obama's goal is not a regime change he simply wants Assad to pay for his use of chemical weapons. The Obama Administration was sure to make this point clear. Also they do not plan on sending U.S troops. A similarity is that when Obama turned to Secretary of State , John Kerry, to announce the U.S Intelligence report on Syria ,he used similar wording as Secretary of State Collin Powell when he presented his intelligence report in 2002 when he stated that Iran possessed weapons of mass destruction. This is important because later Powell's claims were proved false. The article argued many valid points which really made you ask the question: Is Syria 2013 going to mirror the effects of Iraq 2002?
Analysis-
Amar Madhani constructed a brilliant article that really help compare and contrast Syrian 2013 and Iraq 2002. The article was easy to read and very helpful to anyone who had apprehensions about Syria because of the effects or Iraq. The article really helped me better understand what was really going on. You tend to hear more of the what than they why and Madhani successfully addressed them both. By reading this article anyone feeling uneasy about the sitiuation can successfully form an opinion.

ReplyDeleteI think that when a nation is preparing to go into War, that it is always a smart idea to compare the situation to other similar events, in order to improve. I'm sure that America can look at parts of the Iraq War and find better ways to deal with situations they might find that mirror in possible upcoming events with Syria.
I would like for Obama to make wise, and careful choice when it comes to Syria, so that there will not be any horrible outcomes that emerge. It's all in the hands of Congress now, who, apparently have the ultimate say-so
