Summery: Many of us view golf as a boring and insipid sport. I mean, who wants to watch a bunch of old guys hit balls into holes all day? Well golf might be a bit more important then you think. Last year, $67 million dollars were given in prize money to the four Fedex Cup events. Many players are sponsored by major, multi million dollar companies such as Coca-Cola, Nike, Adidas, and many more. "The golf industry is larger than the spectator sports and performing arts industries combined," said WGF chief executive. It also employs two million Americans with a combined wage income of $55.6 billion, thats big chunk of our economy in just one sport. Golf is a sport, and just like any other sport, it will always have fans. Fans who are willing to pay for merchandise, tickets to tournaments, and lots of other things. So the next time you think golf is pointless or wonder why any one bothers being a part of it, you might want to reconsider.

I realize that is technically isn't a current event but, it directly ties to our countries economy, witch is a pretty big deal. All sports contribute to the economy, especailly football, soccer, and basketball, but golf just so happens to be the biggest. Creating more jobs connected to the sport and more revenue than any other sport. I thought it was interesting and so thats why I decided to share this article.

This is a very interesting article! My family is super big on golf. However, I was always the one to think it was the boring and useless sport. Although, it is very true that some of the most well known players are sponsered by the big compaies that you named! Golf is one of those sports that alot of people may not pay attention to but it does very well for itself!
ReplyDeleteThis very surprising to me, considering how over-shadowed golf seems to be by football, basketball, and baseball. However, when you really think about the economic aspect of golf, it really is a huge money maker. More high end companies tend to be sponsors for golf tournaments and players, such as the Rolex watch company, and because of this, the golf industry can bring in more money than other sports .
