Summary: On Wednesday September 4th
there was a stabbing at Spring High School, which is just north of Houston. One
kid was killed in the stabbing and three other kids were hospitalized, but
quickly released.
Luis Alonzo
Alfaro has been arrested and charged with murder after admitting the stabbings
to the authorities. Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia believes that this
incident was gang-related. "We believe that a confrontation of some sort
occurred ... that ultimately led to a physical confrontation that then produced
weapons," states Sheriff Garcia.
After
the incident occurred, the high school was shut down for hours and left lots of
parents wondering exactly what was going on. Tricia Mollard, a parent who heard
about the fight on television, tried calling the school and then contacted police
for answers. "No one could tell me anything. Then I called the school
district asking questions and she hung up on me. The lady I spoke to hung up. I
am so mad. I want answers," she said.
Ms. Mollard had every right to be upset.
The school and police wanted to get their
facts straight and make sure that they were going to have a smooth
investigation before they released specific information.
Analysis: Gangs are becoming very popular
within our generation and it is sad because there are lots of other productive things
that kids could be doing instead of acting out violently. Lots of youth are growing up without a
complete family or stable home. This can
turn them to the streets to feel like they are part of a group. Perhaps the churches and civic leaders can provide
some guidance to the youth, so our generation can move in a more positive
direction. We have to learn how to settle our difference
in peaceful ways.

ReplyDeleteI heard about this on the news. I think it's very unfortunate that one of the safest places parents send their children, is having so many murderous incidents. It's also my hope with you that communities can stand together and fight against violence in neighborhoods across the country.
This is terrible. As a parent you should be able to send your child to a safe environment and except them to come home in one piece. I hope that they get it together that way no else is or can be harmed.
ReplyDeleteThis incident is really tragic. Many schools try to take precautions to avoid accidents like this from happening by installing security cameras or having bag checks. Despite this, violent events like this one still occur. Hopefully people will learn to channel their anger or negativity in a non-violent manner.
ReplyDeleteWhat is so sad about this topic in my opinion is that you can never predict when such an tragic incident such as this could happen. A school or environment that has been safe for generations could have one bad moment that could end terribly. I hope that school shootings and stabbings go down over the next generations.
