Clothes for girls "to just be kids"- Alexa Almaguer 4th Period
Summary:
From an early age, Maya Choksi and Grace Gericke realized that the clothes that stores sell for girls just weren't their style. Many young girls' apparel sold in department stores are very "girly" and "dressy" whereas Maya and Grace prefer more comfortable clothing. The girls' mothers, Sharon Burns Choksi and Laura Burns, decided to create a clothing line called Girls Will Be. The shirts sold can be considered to be "in-between" and are not as fitting as most girls' apparel. Girls Will Be is said to offer more options so kids can be themselves.
Analysis:
This article written by Matthew Casey, discusses not only a unique kids clothing line, but also the importance of kids being able to just be themselves. It seems as if many department stores all have some sort of image concocted, on how young girls should dress. Even young kids have their own personality and style, and many of the sterotypical dresses and whatnot sold just aren't for them. Girls Will Be is able to cater kids who want clothes that are "in-the-middle." The many graphic tees have different sayings or pictures on them. This clothing line is able to send out a positive message to young girls and boys.

I love this. I know I would have appreciated this when I was slightly younger. Not every girl is girls and prefers to wear pink and flowers. Instead many prefer to be comfortable and this idea is great!! All for it and really does send a positive message
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh this is super neat! I remember when I was a kid all my sister and I wore were matching girly stuff and I HATED it. I mean, I love girly clothes now but that's in part because I now how have the freedom to choose it. and some days I just want a t-shirt and some jeans, even now. I wish little Leslie had had some more options besides frilly dresses!
ReplyDeleteYes! This is great. Not every little girl is super girly. I'm sure a lot of kids will feel way more included in the world of clothing. Hopefully eventually they will have a greater variety of clothes, but in the meantime those t-shirts look cool.

This sounds amazing, I think it's really important for America to have this diversity in their clothing so every kid can find themselves and have their own style. It's so cool that you can just start your own clothing line whenever you want and people will actually buy it, one thing that makes America so unique. Love it!!!
