Casey Lampert- NASA Robot Explorer

The LADEE spacecraft was launched last friday to the Moon from Virginia however, it quickly encountered technical troubles. The spacecraft's job is to study the lunar atmosphere and dust, making three rounds around Earth before it gets close enough to get into the lunar orbit which will take about a month. The mission will last 6 months, ending with LADEE (which is the size of a small car) crashing into the moon. The director of NASA's Ames Research Center in California is confident that the craft will be working properly in a few days, continuing on to it's destination.

I think that this is an awesome show of innovation and change. This is a rare moment where NASA didn't use the Cape Canaveral, Florida launch pad and it shows that we are reaching new heights, literally, with the technology that's being developed today. The slight glitch shows that nothing is perfect yet, but we are closer than we've ever been to expand our technology and further explore our galaxy.

  1. this is so impressive that our technology now days is becoming like it is. It makes me wonder what it will be like in a couple of years from now.

  2. Although the glitch is unfortunate I think it's awesome that NASA has gotten this far and this technologically advanced. I hope everything ends up going as planned and it will be cool to see what images and research we receive from this opportunity.

  3. I think its kind of ironic how the first time they didn't use their Florida launch pad, they encounter technical difficulties. It is amazing though how far NASA has come so far in just a few decades. Hopefully they will get their glitch figured out soon and the mission will be back on track!

  4. Just some food for thought: If we (as a nation) where to take one penny from each tax dollar we would be able to afford a full functioning NASA space program again.
