Best U.S. College Options - Sydney Shreve 1st

Summary: In upcoming 2014, the list for the years' best colleges will be released to the public. This article is written by the U.S. News Staff who are also those who decide which colleges/universities will be selected for the list each year. The schools are chosen based upon, their ability to compete in multiple categories and then in each category they are based on their performance in the specific area. The article is written to inform the public, mainly students, about the opportunities of some of the best schools America has to offer.

Analysis: As junior year continues and with senior year just around the corner, its time for most of our class to begin looking into colleges. Searching for the right college though can be tough, so tools such as articles like this can help us get a better view for whats out there after high school. Given all the information thats listed about each ranked college it can become easier to decide what colleges we want to apply to and eventually attend. The idea for the list is commendable, but one beef I have with the list of 'the best colleges,' is that no one can definitively tell you what the best university for everyone is per say. Each student is different, some like big schools and some like small, some want sports and others not at all. So for a group of people, most likely scholars, to come together and collectively decide 'the best' school for our entire country's population is a bit well, false. In searching for a college were not just looking at the test scores and how many geniuses attend that university, we base our decision on what fits our agenda and most likely on which school we can accepted to and hopefully graduate with a degree.

  1. This scares me. I am not sure on how these schools are ranked, in the sense that one school may not be the best school for my chosen area of interest... but is somehow one of the best schools in the nation? Confusion
