Sunday night, August 31, the parents of Antiq Hennis were taking their child on a walk when the 1-year old boy was shot in the head. His parents were pushing the stroller as Antiq was shot in the left side of his head. 2 days earlier, Georgia law convicted a man, De'Marquise Elkins, for shooting a 1-year old baby in Brunswick- he faces jail time for life because of the shooting back in March. Antonio Santiago, the victim killed, was shot after his mother refused to give Elkins money.
Looking into this story and analyzing it, the sheer horror of a man killing a practically helpless human being is disgusting. How could a man be so evil to punish a victim by shooting his/her child? This proves how violent and crazed our society can get. We all are shocked and sick to our stomachs when we hear about murders, but it's unfathomable to imagine infants or toddlers being killed for no apparent reason. My heart goes out to those parents who lost their children, losing a loved one is so difficult; losing a child you barely had time to raise is excruciating. As I was looking through comments after the article, someone mentioned bringing the US army back to help patrol things like this- on the streets keeping things safe and controlled. Do you think that is the right thing to do? Personally, I might feel safe knowing the army is protecting us, but also uncomfortable that we have to have armed guards patrolling the streets. It's the 21st century!

I wonder why Elkin didnt shoot the mother or father? Maybe because a child is the most important thing to the life of parents, protecting them, and keeping them safe? Also, the thought of having US forces patrolling the streets of the US only makes me think of the Nazis, i feel that it would start an uprising within our country from the thought that the government of the US is starting to take over and the US would no longer be "free"
ReplyDeleteThe summary seemed incomplete and confusing to me. The 1st and 2nd sentence should have somehow been combined, because it seems a bit repetitive. They are basically the exact same sentence, except in the 2nd sentence you mention that he was in a stroller and he was shot in the left side of his head. You then talked about something that happened two days earlier which threw me off. I had to read that a few times to try and figure out what you were talking about. I assume that Antonio Santiago was the baby who was shot two days earlier by De'Marquise Elkins but its unclear. I'm not quite sure how these two different stories link together, besides that two babies were shot, which I agree is absolutely horrifying and revolting.I think the summary should have been worded differently.
ReplyDeleteI found your analysis very thorough and an interesting read, and I completely agree with your opinions. I also liked that you looked through the comments and talked about bringing the US army to patrol these sorts of things. I agree that the idea is appalling; we shouldn't require guards patrolling the streets to keep people from killing babies.
Thank you for sharing this article! I hope that you feel my comments were constructive, because that is what I was going for!

Felicia Padilla 5th period: I think this article is an excellent example of the gun crisis that is going on in America right now. If a person was to just read this story it would most likely cause them to feel that there should be much stricter gun laws placed in America today. It's scary to think that you could just be walking outside on the street one day when someone comes and shoots at your baby.
