E. coli Outbreak Expands - Lauren Rothert

Around 98 cases of E. coli have been reported in 22 states, and the number is rising. The newest states to report cases are Mississippi, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated that they predict more reports of illness since there is a two-week delay between when a person become ill and when they are confirmed to be apart of an outbreak. Forty-six of the ill individuals have been hospitalized, and ten of these patients have developed a type of kidney failure associated with the E. coli virus. Symptoms of the virus appear three to four days after ingesting the bacteria, and include stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea. Most people recover in about five to seven days. Overall, its important to avoid eating or buying lettuce if you are unsure where it is grown.

I eat romain lettuce almost every day, and it is so scary to see this virus spreading. We should not have to fear eating these healthy foods. I believe that we need to develop a way to prevent viruses like E. coli from poisoning our food. I hope we are able to extinguish this bacteria and return to eating healthy romain lettuce.

Fatima Gonzalez: North and South Korea meet

On Friday, North Korean Leader Kim Jong in and South Korean President Moon Jea-in met at the border of North and South Korea to negotiate a peace treaty. Both stepped on the opposite side of the country then, while both held hands, headed to North Korea to discuss a denuclearization talk. Everything seemed to go well.

I myself can't believe what is happening at the moment. Two countries that had pure hatred for decades finally decide to talk and cross each others borders even though no other Korean leader(s) of the ast have ever done that, its amazing! Although I'm still skeptical about the whole thing, its incredible to know that Kim is deciding to talk peace for once.

Tom Brokaw accused of sexual misconduct by ex-NBC reporter Linda Vester, 2nd woman - Jacob Meazle

Link: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tom-brokaw-denies-sexual-misconduct-claims-from-two-women/

Summary: Tom Brokaw, a special correspondent at NBC news. has come under scrutiny from a former colleague, Linda Vester, after she alleges that Brokaw made unwanted sexual advances toward her in 1993. She claims Brokaw groped her from behind, and later tried to force her to kiss him. Brokaw denies all these allegations.

Position: This relates to the #MeToo movement. Normally, we see a figure come under fire for sexual misconduct, and they apologize and get fired. However, Tom has done neither of these things, and has even gained support from his current female colleagues. I don't know who to believe at this point.

LaCentheah Bagley period 2 "Son of first Guinea president, wife busted for enslaving woman"

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/son-guinea-president-wife-busted-enslaving-woman-article-1.3958938
Summary: Mohamed Toure and Denise cros-Toure had set up an arrangement to have a 5 year old leave her village to be their slave back in 2000. The little girl was forced to cook, clean, and take care of their first child close to her age.  She was also denied her rights and was also not able to join school along with being physically and mentally abused. People have said that the little girl was often found on a bench in the park when she was supposedly in trouble. Police often found her but returned her back home with wonders but didn't mind investigating.
This article was written by David Boroff on April 27, 2018. This article is something that needed to be heard even if it was in 2016 it's still relevant. This relates back to just years ago when slavery was still about (still is) but the fact that it's a child and was arranged it what's really bad about it.

Bill Cosby Found Guilty of Sexual Assault in Retrial- Heaven-Leigh Pettis

So much for "The Cosby Show"

Today, Thursday, March 26th, Bill Cosby was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home 14 years ago. Cosby was convicted of 3 counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand, at the time a Temple University employee. The Montgomery County district attorney suggested his $1 million dollar bail should be revoked considering he committed a serious crime, owned a plane and could flee. Cosby was angry at this statement and yelled that he did not own a plane and called him an asshole. The Judge didn't view him as a flight risk and said that he could have his bail as long as he stayed near his home.
The National Organization for Women called for the verdict to remember that there are sexual predators everywhere. Women everywhere were relieved to find that Cosby had been found guilty of his sexual assault charges and Rose McGowan, who accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, even tweeted out a thank you to the judge and the jury and "to society for waking up." 5 women showed up to the trial to testify against Cosby and to which Kathleen Bliss, one of Cosby's lawyers, called one of the women a failed scarlet who slept around. Women in the courtroom were enraged at this remark considering that they were all victims of sexual assault and were finally speaking out about what happened.
Cosby still insisted that his relationship with Andrea Constand was consensual but she says that that wasn't the case. Past victims of Cosby's testified against him and Cosby's legal team kept trying to limit the number of victims that testified. His legal team doesn't believe that he committed the crime and have supported him through this whole retrial. Once the verdict was reached, Cosby and his legal team were not happy but Andrea Constand and other victims celebrated by hugging and crying tears of joy.
It sucks to be let down by someone I looked up to as a kid. Now, I feel bad for watching the Cosby Show even though I grew up on it. I do believe that he committed all these crimes even though there are a lot of his fans who still believe he didn't. I will say that I do think it's wrong to hate this man because of his crimes though because you have people like Woody Allen who haven't been convicted of anything. So while Cosby deserves what's coming to him, there are plenty of famous people who deserve to go be punished too.
And, although Cosby deserves to go to jail, dude is 80 years old, what is he going to learn? That he's going to die in jail? That his hip is getting worst? I don't see the good in sending him to jail for up to 30 years when he'll probably die sooner than that.

Star map.

A european space agency has produce and precise map of 1.7 billion stars in our galaxy. The information will provide the best three dimensional map of our galaxy ever.
Researchers are expecting a slew of discoveries in the coming hours and days, but analyses will go on for years and even decades.

This is an important development because it will lead to many more further development of astronomical studies and observations.

Racist promposal- Sanaya gangal

Summary:
A picture of an unidentified teen holding up a promposal sign sparked outrage over social media due to the racist message it depicted.

“IF I WAS BLACK I’D BE PICKING COTTON, BUT I’M WHITE SO I’M PICKING U 4... PROM?”

Not only did this sign prompt an outrage over Snapchat, it caused the school and the school district to  get involved. The Sarasota County School District stated, “this incident remains an ongoing investigation and any disciplinary action and recommendation will be made accordingly.”
The president of the NAACP, Trevor Harvey, even responded to this poster by saying that “A strong statment needs to be made to their student body that this type of behavior will not be tolerated on any of our campuses throughought the school district, and, if so, there are going to be severe consequences.”

Analysis:
It’s shocking to even think that anybody would even come up with, let alone, publicize such a racist and cruel statment like this. It’s not funny or cute, it’s just rude. The fact that people- especially people of our age group- can even think of something like this concerns me because it shows that people still have the nerve to disrespect other races and make fun of people of color.
